Ecuadorian coffee scene is really increasing, not only by the effort of specialized stores that create events like the one that I’m about to mention, also is because of the standard of the customers, nowadays people know a lot about everything so is very important to improve everyday.

So well what the hell happened in Quito?

In the cutural center Eugenio Espejo (which bty is an old hospital creepy but beautiful) the event Quito barista jam was organized, we could see the best baristas in the world, including the world champion Hidanori Izaki, I loved the event cause was in an old church inside the ex hospital it was fckng epic besides the hole environment was so simple yet so professional and kinda informal, all the people could get closer to the baristas and even drink the coffee they were doing, a little completion between the best vs Ecuadorian baristas was all of the sudden happening and the best won by far hahaha but hey ! Ecuador is getting there, I mean to already be organizing this kinds of things makes us realize something is changing over here :)

So what is the moral of this event!
Yep moral (wtf)

Well, I love that my country is really improving into the different areas of culinary arts, by showing the actors In. the scene and the costumers lots of interesting facts just to make the experience of drinking and eating a truly deep experience of live :)

IF YOU COME TO QUITO YOU SHOULD DEFENITELY VISIT AND TRY AND LISTEN THESE

1. PLACES

FLORESTA:

Here you’ll know a part of the city that reflects art in every corner, you’ll see lots of stencils, pictures, photos trought the neighborhood, great bookstores, cafés and fancy restaurants, that just by walking you can get there.

What I love the most about this place is that the street urban art is not only about pintorestic themes, is also about food. In the center of floresta, there’s this open local market of street traditional food, in which with 3 dollars, you can get a complete and delicious meal, do not worry for hygene, All of the stands are controloled by the authorities and all of them have permission to work, so you just have to go and enjoy.

I really recommend these dishes:

- Fritada (fried pork meat)

- Tripa Mishki (roasted chinchulines)

- Empanas de Viento (cheese empanadas)

- Espumilla (kind of a merengue ice cream)

What to hear in Quito?

If you want a complete guide of Quito, you must add local bands, that represent the essence of the city.

I recommend to listen:

CAN CAN - Uio (Watch all the videos they make a Quito walkthrought)

MAMA VUDU - Plazma

MARLEY MUERTO - TREN (Only this video was filmed in Bogota, but the project is from Quito)

SWING ORIGINAL MONKS - Fiesta Popular

MUNN - Aquí Ahora

GUARDARRAYA - Lero Lero

Biorn Borg - Submarino

This is the first part of several posts I’ll be doing about Ecuador must visit, eat and listen :)

Im curious into know what musicians, painters, chefs (artists) drink when they writte, compose or in general when they create something.

I really believe there’s something special about certain combinations, that at the end, ends up with something awesome !

Im gonna start doing interviews to really get in the bottom of this topic !, Im from Ecuador so Im gonna start with artists from here :)

The World of Wine’s labels

Well, We definetely pick a wine for several reasons:

1. Its price

Sometimes and shamely it is still believed that the higher the price of a wine is, the better it is, and to think that is simply BULLSHIT

Yeah, of course the quality of a wine is gonna be reflected in its price, but to think that the price makes a wine is so mistaken, Prices are a way to divide the differents lines of big brands, the process of making wine (selection of grapes, time in oak etc etc, makes the wine greater and of course the region where they are made make the wines so different to eachother.

My point is that, we shouldn`t pick a wine for its price, we should pick a wine for the profile that is offered in the label due the process that the wine has recieved, pick them according to your taste if you want a very structured wine, with strong tannins, ok read the label and look for that, try then, to compare wines that have that description and buy different ranges of prices, go to a cheap one (8 - 25 $) then a wine of ( +25 - 50$) and other of (+50 - 100$) (Im reffering to local prices in Ecuador, in your country will be different ranges)

And then, with the help of someone, make a blind tasting and select your favorite one ;)

2. Its Reputation

If the brand is know, then is good. BULLSHIT

Yeah, there are some big huge brands recognized around the world, but that doesn`t mean that their wines are always the best option, besides there are thousands of local, small vineyards that make AWESOME and DIFFERENT wines, don`t be afraid and try them.

3. It’s Design

Depending of the generation that you belong, and also the situation where the wine is gonna be drunk, you’re gonna select labels acoording to that, (your taste and the enviorment)

If you are from an older generation you’ll probably pick a very classic and elegant label, and the same will happen if you have a reunion with your boss, But it will be very different if you are just gonna be hanging out with your friends.

SO THE MORAL IS

Select a bottle of wine due the info found on the label, its part of its essencial and tells a lot about the backround of it.

Don`t go to further on prices or brands.

;)

Drink and enjoy !
